Agenda

Leveraging Adobe Photoshop for website mockups

Demo will cover time-saving techniques for using Photoshop to create the visual design for a website from scratch, and then slice out images to later be used with HTML & CSS.

Some specific tricks will be covered including:

  • Layer groups for better organization
  • Keyboard shortcuts to quickly select and move layer elements without having to hunt them down in the layers pallet
  • Using "copy merged" to grab selected areas for slicing out
  • Using "Save For Web" for image optimization and transparency

We'll also discuss the differences between Photoshop, Fireworks, and the Gimp.

This was my first Meetup with the Gig Harbor Web Design group. I was impressed by the sophistication and professionalism and I really enjoyed the questions, comments, and exchange of ideas. I learned some things and had a good time. Thanks Sean, Eric, and everyone.

Great Job, Sean! I learned a lot even thought I'm not much of a Photoshop user. Great discussion too around slicing and markup.

    •  Great. Learned a lot, outstanding job Sean!
    •  This was a great meeting - valuable info on creating a web design mockup with photoshop and some good CSS tips thrown in.
    •  Another great meetup with a wonderfully informative presentation!
    •  An impressive display of Photoshop and it's tentacle-like features that allow it to reach back to original jpegs and images for manipulation from the mock up page without leaving the workspace. Watching Sean do the demonstration was seeing a wizard at work. . .the demonstration was well rehearsed and thought out so that even a non-Photoshop user could follow along and understand the processes. An excellent meetup!

Great tips on using Photoshop more efficiently for mockups and slicing including lots of time-saving shortcuts and alternate ways to accomplish design tasks for more flexibility.
